NOTE: Considering the trials and delays in beginning my new blog site (read Problems Creating a New WordPress Blog ) I decided I’d continue posting on this site until the issues are resolved. This first post goes back to January 1, 2015.

Dates that come around every year help us measure progress in our lives.

One annual event, New Year’s Day, is a time of reflection and resolution.

Have you written your New Year’s resolutions yet? After all, it is New Year’s Eve/Day, time for Old man two-oh-fourteen to step aside (willingly or unwillingly) and allow the birth of newbie two-oh-fifteen.

It’s also the time we are expected to welcome Newbie 2015 with a list in hand—a list of resolutions with which we are to write in the first blank page of a 365 page journal, which, through the year, will become a good book.

The December 22, 2014, WordPress prompt asks How did you do on last year’s New Year’s resolutions? Do you anticipate there will be any leftover items to be carried over to next year?

Clik here to view.I found my 2014 list of eleven 2014 resolutions…from which I’ll pick the top five to evaluate, based on the WordPress questions. One note:all will be carried over to my 2015 list.

Finish the first draft of my novel. Harumph. When did I even start it this unplanned project that evolved out of my genealogy research? About 2000? Concerned it was taking so long to write I surfed the web to discover authors who took years writing their novels. I found several, including Elias Canetti’s Crowds and Power (25 years); Charles Dickens allegedly took 25 years to write A Tale of two Cities. Assuming I’ve written for 14 years, I have 11 more years to complete the book—including rewrites. Writing the first draft has made the top of my New Year’s resolutions for about six years. Each year, including 2014, the novel moved forward, but the first draft awaits its completion. I only hope I live long enough to bring it to fruition.
Paint 36 doll heads. This task has been on my New Year’s resolution lists since January 1996. I cut out the doll heads in my Jamestown, Pennsylvania, neighbor’s garage about 1994-1995. All the doll parts and clothes are ready and waiting for the head-painting. My niece Debbie instructed me how to paint the faces. The problem is that my hands freeze when I hold a paint brush. In 2014 I found someone willing to paint the heads for me—all but the six I must paint myself so I can submit them to craft shows. Perhaps in 2015 the painting will be completed.
Finish my paternal genealogical calendar. On my list for about 4 years, after I completed my maternal genealogical calendar.
Complete three magazine articles. One done—Flight of Valor (a musical composition on Flight 93), published four years after it began. The other two—one on the Battle of the Bulge and one on a historical house in the Ligonier Valley—remain undone.
De-clutter my house: This task has been a New Year’s resolution since…well, since forever. Perhaps it should be removed.

A review of the above list tells me that I only partially accomplished my goals. However, I credit the list with being a good incentive for working on these resolutions.

Organize my print photos, print, tin, and digital.
Maintain my blog, CAROLYN’S COMPOSITIONS, on a regular basis. Accomplished with easy to write short pieces.
Locate a source to copy information from my 5 inch floppy discs.
Locate a source to copy one music tape onto CDs.
